Our class have been writing our own myths and we have created some fantastic myths. We started by researching a phenomenon and then how that came to be. We read lots of local myths and myths from around New Zealand to find out what we needed to have in our own myths.
Here is an example of a lovely myth written by Honor.
Ra and the Green Flash.
Once there was a beautiful young woman who lived on the wild West Coast of the South Island. Her name was Ra Tuhiwai. She was the daughter of Tane Tuhiwai and the lover of Hare Tohoro who was a young warrior. They had a beautiful baby boy called Marama. But soon a tragic thing happened, Hare went to war with the neighbouring tribe and did not return. In her grief Ra rose up and became the sun. But she had left her only child, Marama. Marama was all alone. He had to look after himself. But seeing as he was only 3 (Toru) he rose up and became the light (Marama). To this day they both remain in the sky. They meet on clear nights and their bond creates a green glow or a flash.
That is the story of the green flash.
Hi Totara. It's Mikael from Yaldhurst school. I rea;llyt like you mith. It is really cool. I wish we would do stuff like that in our class. Next time I think you should try to make it easier to read and maybe ad some photos. Apart from that it is really good.
