Hide and Seek Writing

For our first piece of writing we had describe a game of hide and seek.

WALT: visualise and write about an experience.

Think about playing a game of hide and seek/spotlight.
Take yourself back to that moment of time playing the game.
Picture in your head playing the game
Tell us about…
Where are you hiding?
What is the first thought that pops into your head?
What is the first sound you hear?
Who are you hiding from?
What can you see?
Write down everything you can recall.

Check out some of our examples from... Molly, Jacob and Nikau

Baking!

Check out the tasty biscuits that Rhys and his mum have made during lockdown. I have shared a link to the blog post that includes the recipe. Maybe you could also have a go at making these biscuits too...

This is the blog post from Rhys
So I've already posted the recipe for these biscuits but I got a few comments asking for the photos, so I have some before and after photos of the Strawberry flavor biscuits (Me and my mum made vanilla flavor the first time). Also something I missed out when I did the first post on these I forgot to say only press them down a SMALL bit!

Key Com Awards

Congratulations to Nikau and Aoife for receiving our Key Com awards today, well done.

Creative Writing

We have been working on creative writing this week and trying to add in amazing descriptive language so we can create an image in the readers mind. This weeks tasks were to describe a special place and a character description.

My Special Place
PIIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHH!! The Pohutukawa Trees swaying against the wind causing a calming white noise, cancelling noises like cars and other people strolling around.
The hot summer breeze produces small droplets of sweat racing down my back causing it to tickle then soaking into my t-shirt causing it to glue to my back with a dark wet patch.

The hokey pokey golden sand crawling up between my toes every time I take a step into the sand.

Me Racing up and down the beach THUD THUD THUD! My feet land on the sand with a strong force and pace, the sand crunches, grinding all the little stone rock grains together then being compact like concrete making ground shock shiver up my shins into my knees with ultimate force.
The smell of the sticky sea salt crawling into my pores making me feel relaxed, calmed and softened in my muscles like my body has fallen asleep, so soothing.

I Taste the salty mouthful of water that makes me feel the urge to throw up that I copped, gulped and swallowed diving head first into beautiful blue waves.

I jump into a not very welcoming wave not so sure that it's boogie boardible.
The top lip of the wave soares right over my head as I ride the wave into shore in one quick moment. The wave drops its top lip right in front of me and eats me up like a giant blue smurf mouth, throwing me up the beach as the sand grates skin off my hip, elbows and knees.
Lying on the shore exhausted just where the wave rejected me and left me!

I spit the dehydrating salt water out my mouth as the salt water fries my grazes with a salty sting.
I wrap a towel around myself, reflecting on my good day ready to go home and chillax.
My special place is Kaiteriteri.

Creative Writing

We have been working on creative writing this week and trying to add in amazing descriptive language so we can create an image in the readers mind. This weeks tasks were to describe a special place and a character description.

A Special Place
I can feel the wet grainy sand seeping in between my toes as I stroll along the beach, the beams of sunlight shining down upon the glossy blue water. The sound of people laughing and chatting in the midst of the rolling waves crashing up against the shore and the potent smell of the salty seaweed washed up on the beach. My family and I had just arrived after a five hour long drive from Greymouth to Golden Bay. The journey felt as though it had been stretched out for 10 hours because of my great anticipation. We had just dropped our bags off at Sandcastle where we’re staying for a week and driven down to Tata beach. I’m about to jump into the water to do some snorkelling in my wetsuit and attempt to discover what lives on the freezing seabed. “Splash!” I immediately feel the water rushing into my wetsuit and cooling my body temperature down as I swim further out to sea. I put my head underwater to try and spot some fish however the water is seemingly an endless abyss. I know it can’t be deeper than three metres considering it’s low tide so I make the decision to dive down.

The water immediately swallows me whole and as I go deeper my ears begin to throb. I can see the seabed! It’s an eerie sort of silence down here and freezing at that! There are many shells scattered along the bottom as well as schools of fish in the distance. There are starfish covering the seabed. I realise that I’m almost out of breath and I push off the bottom as hard as I can and shoot up like a rocket. I gasp for breath.
